Pooja Bhatt Opens Up About Her Battle With Alcoholism After Her Failed Marriage; Recalls, ‘He Was A Wonderful Man But There Was Loneliness In My Soul’
Pooja Bhatt opened up about how her failed marriage led to being addicted to alcohol and how she gave her career a second chance
Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt’s elder daughter Pooja Bhatt has been making the headlines for the past few months by sharing insights from her personal and professional life. Ever since she participated in Bigg Boss OTT 2, the audiences have seen a different version of her. As someone who has led a very unapologetic life, she recently opened up about her failed marriage and alcohol addiction during an event.
Talking about it during the book launch event of Unchain My Heart, Pooja made some revelations about her personal life experiences. She spoke about the impact divorce and her broken relationship took on her. For the unversed, she had tied the knot with VJ Manish Makhija, a Mumbai-based restaurateur and former video jockey, in 2003 after dating for a brief period of time. They parted ways in 2014, after spending more than a decade together. She explained how, even though she was married to a wonderful man, she somehow lost her identity during their relationship. Quoted by Bollywood Shaadis, the 51-year-old actress said, “I found myself in a marriage that was crumbling. It wasn’t crumbling because of any painful situation, it was rather boring, neither of us cheated or were interested in it. As a woman, I realised that I lost myself in the process while ticking the box that the society has set for me. It took me sometime to realise that I am trapped in a marriage that wasn’t working for me. I lost my femininity. I forgot who I was. The Sadak 2 actress went on to reveal that she started using alcohol as a band-aid for her failed marriage. Trapped and chained, she used to drink to numb the pain. She added, “I learnt to deal with myself, my anguish and my emptiness and from that something magical emerged. I kicked the bottle and it has been seven years since I have been sober.”
For the unversed, Pooja is Mahesh's eldest daughter from his first marriage with Kiran Bhatt aka Lorraine Bright. They also have a son Rahul Bhatt. The filmmaker went on to marry Soni Razdan, after he separated from his first wife. They have two daughters Shaheen Bhatt and Alia Bhatt.
